A Home Designed With You in Mind

The Greatham Foundation is excited to introduce The Heathers, a brand-new development of 14 modern Almshouse bungalows in Hartlepool, thoughtfully designed to support independent living for older people and those living with dementia.

The development includes 13 two-bedroom bungalows and 1 one-bedroom bungalow, all designed with accessibility, comfort and wellbeing in mind, including one home specifically designed for wheelchair users.

Co-designed with a specialist design team and people with lived experience of dementia, every aspect of The Heathers has been carefully considered from room layouts and colour schemes to outdoor spaces, creating a safe and welcoming environment that promotes familiarity, independence and wellbeing.

Who Can Apply?

The Heathers Almshouses are for people who:

Have a diagnosis of dementia
Are over the age of 40
Require housing to promote independence and wellbeing
Accommodation is available for single occupants or couples. For couples, one applicant must have a dementia diagnosis

A Community of Care and Support

The Greatham Foundation already provides Almshouses across Hartlepool, Greatham, Norton, and Stockton, including bedsits, one- and two-bedroom bungalows, and flats. All our homes are located in pleasant, secluded or semi-secluded areas.

Heather Grove is also home to The Greatham Foundation’s community dementia services, including:

The Heathers Day Centre – offering social activities, memory support, and structured care in a friendly, supportive environment
Community Pastimes – a programme of group activities and one-to-one engagement to maintain skills, confidence, and independence
The Bridge – providing practical guidance, peer support advice, and support for people living with dementia and their families

Independent Living, With Support

Our Almshouses provide independent living in a friendly and caring community, encouraging residents to live full, active lives.

Residents benefit from:

24/7 emergency support
Assistance from our Almshouse Team, who:
Monitor wellbeing through regular visits and calls
Offer practical help and guidance
Supports participation in local community activities

The Heathers Almshouses will be available from Late 2026. The monthly cost will be approximately £850 and includes a range of services. Each home will benefit from bespoke access and security features tailored to individual needs, including options such as facial recognition technology and key fob entry systems, helping residents maintain independence safely and confidently. All properties will also include an electric vehicle charging point.
